This red CJ7 has been changed a lot and has been a lot of places in the last 12 years. The Jeep came to Bill & Linda in stock form with very tall gears and a tired engine.

The first addition was the full roll cage. During the first winter the 258 cu. in. engine was re-built. It was bored .030 over, fully balanced and an RV cam installed.

After a ride along trip to the 1996 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, plans were made to return in 1997 with their Jeep and the changes started. The 2.73 differential gears had to go. The entire suspension was removed and the fun began. A 2 1/2 inch Pro Comp lift including shocks, custom high strength shackles, Tomken Machine U-bolt skid plates and JKS sway bar disconnects were installed. The axle housings were stripped, cleaned and coated with Hammerite. Both axles received 4.10 gears with ARB lockers. The front Dana 30 received a new set of Warn hubs. The rear AMC 20 received Dutchman one-piece axles. The ARB's are operated by an engine driven air compressor using a 4-gallon storage tank. The air system has outlets front and rear for refilling the tires. The tires are 33 x 12.50 x 15 Dunlop Mud Radials. The axles are connected to a Dana 300 transfer case and a T-176 four-speed transmission. This set up worked well at Moab in '97. Obstacles like Rock Chucker, Tip Over Challenge, High Dive Canyon and Rock Pile were navigated slowly, although there was some stalling. That computer controlled carburetor had to go.

Plans were made to return to Moab in 1998 and the Mopar multi-port fuel injection system was installed. This was an easy installation and the results were great.

The Jeep also has R&P 4Wheel Drive clevis mounts on the front bumper, a Warn XD9000i, a Cobra CB radio and an Optima battery. After the 1999 trip to the California trails the installation of a new high strength tie rod was necessary.

Some recent changed include: A Warn full floating axle kit has been added to the AMC 20 rear end, A Chrysler 999 automatic transmission with a LoKar shifter has replaced the T-176, A set of 33X12.50 Goodyear MT/Rís have been mounted and a power brake system from Navajo Brakes has been installed.

Bill & Linda have had their CJ7 on trails in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and California. Thus the phrase "4-Wheeling the Northwest .....and beyond".
